Fascinating mountaineering to Pico del Teide (3.718 m)
Description:
What would Tenerife look like if there wasn’t the Teide, the highest mountain all over Spain? Its summit is practically seen from any of the island’s regions. This is why the ascent afoot is a lasting happening for any holiday. We start in the street through the Canadas toward El Portillo in an altitude of 2.200 m. On our way to the mountain we firstly approach the preliminary ridge of Montana Blanca with its “Teide eggs”. Serpentines lead us to the lava-covered slope. In an altitude of 3.200 m we pass by the Refugio de Altavista. Our final destination is the Rambleta, a stony round-path going to two different viewing platforms. Our special permit, we get weekly for all our participants from the administration of Santa Cruz’s national park, enables us to get to the very top of the crater. After having enjoyed the spectacular gaze over Canary Islands we take the cable car back to our starting point. Although, if the weather isn’t good, the cable car might not be running. Hence we have to get back afoot. In this case we have to point out that there is a risk of getting the altitude sickness. Beneath a good physical fitness is required.
