Hike into the Antequera Canyon
A genuine alternative to the Masca hike: this pirate bay can be hiked every day with complete flexibility!
This hike to Antequera Bay is a real insider tip in the Anaga Mountains: small groups, hiking to a natural sandy bay with a swim in the Atlantic with pick up by a water taxi (zodiac) to Teresitas Beach.
This hike can also be booked as a private tour at any time for an additional fee.
Antequera – a hidden canyon in the Anaga Mountains
NEW! The hike into the Antequera Canyon is our genuine alternative to the famous Masca Canyon. It is bookable daily, with no entrance tickets needed and amazing untouched nature waiting to be discovered. It is really is a real insider tip in the Anaga Mountains!
After the pick up in the south of Tenerife, the tour continues by car to the north-east of the island via Santa Cruz to the famous Anaga Mountains. The hike starts in Igueste de San Andrés and it is very important that you wear ankle-high hiking boots for this descent into the canyon!
The old goat path winds its way up the mountain through a side valley between green terraces and plantations. It is said that the best mangoes on the island grow here! Igueste de San Andrés is famous for its humid and warm climate. The Anaga Mountains, with their characteristic trade winds, provide plenty of water and thus you find fertile fields and plantations here. In the upper part, cactus and succulents line the hiking trail. Once you reach the ridge, you have a great view back to the sea and the rugged coastline all the way to Santa Cruz. At this point, the steep climb is over, and a cooling breeze cools you down for the descent!
The trail is partly narrow and stony, leading over basalt rocks with ledges. Down in the bay, there is time for a swim in the Atlantic before continueing with a water taxi (zodiac) back to the Teresitas beach. This tour is not recommended for guests with pronounced vertigo.
It is no coincidence that the stories about the pirate Bay of Antequera are still toll to this day; this tour is unique in all of Tenerife!
We guarantee a small group with a maximum of 8 hikers. The water taxi also has a maximum of only 12 seats!
