Hike into the Masca Canyon
“Who hasn`t been to Masca has nothing seen!”
This is an old Tinerfenian saying, so let`s go. The unique descent into the Masca Canyon can take place only weekends so far. We book the necessary entrance tickets in advance for you and guide you on this hike through the new opened Masca Canyon.
This hike can also be booked as a private tour with a supplement.

NEW! After a very long closure you can now book the hike into the Masca Canyon with us.
After your pick up in the south of Tenerife the transfer heads in direction northwest to the Teno-Mountains. Start of the hike is at the new opened Visitor Center in Masca. We depart after a short briefing from the rangers. Since the opening of the canyon it is mandatory to wear a helmet, which you will receive on place. Very important: It is required to wear ankle-high hiking boots! The rangers will be controlling the shoes. You cannot join the tour with sports shoes or trainers!
The hiking trail into the canyon starts to meander between old terraces from the village of Masca into the valley. You will be surprised by the green vegetation with palm trees and opuntias at the beginning part of the trail. Afterwards, it gets rockier and you get deeper by every step into the Masca Canyon. You can admire water and wet vegetation all year round, even in summer time. The gigant walls round about will get higher and higher and you will reach the deepest and narrowest part of the hike. By this point you will be looking onto the ocean and the Masca bay!
Unfortunately there is no boat pick up at the bay until further notice. After a nice break on the stony Masca beach, we ascent the same trail back to Masca. Climbing up you will have a completely different perspective. You hike from sea level back through the different vegetation zones until the village of Masca, situated on 600 meters level.
After the reopening of the Masca Canyon the trails are prepared with steps, ropes and handrails. Therefore there are no more dangerous climbing passages. Anyway, you should come prepared, be sure-footed in this mountainous terrain and should have a very good physical condition. A lot of steps facilitate the hike and many signs and safety devices mark the trail. Nevertheless, it is important to mention, that the hike into the Masca Canyon stays a strenous and challenging tour.

The hike takes you on single trails and old goat trails. Not suitable for guests with strong vertigo.
Details of the tour
Transfer from start to end of the tour. All our hikes are organized with a tour guide in your language, who can inform you about Tenerife`s insights, flora und fauna and much more. We only work together with locals who live for many years or their whole life on the island.
Tour price for a group of minimum 6 participants:
The hike takes place only on weekends either on a Saturday or Sunday and has a cost of 69,- € per person. This exigent tour is not suitable for children under 12 years.
Guide and Transfer
English speaking tour guide, transfer from/to your hotel in the south of Tenerife (Los Cristianos, Las Americas, Costa Adeje, Playa Paraiso and Costa los Gigantes) or meeting point in Santiago del Teide if you come by rental car.

Technique and Condition
This challenging hike requires sure-footness and a very good condition. At the end of the hike the last ascent is very steep and the first 300 high meters of descent could be demanding. Especially in summer time you will practically not find any shade on the way back to Masca.

Hiking boots (the rangers will control if you wear ankle-high hiking boots).
Hiking poles can be rented on place (1,- €).
